Young Bloods #2 - get on it
Judging by the line that trailed down the street, Young Bloods proved to be a highly anticipated newest music event in Brisbane. The diverse crowd settled into an evening of ‘drinks at 1985 prices’ and the finest emerging artists of this city.
Unconvention winner Calais kicked off the evening with a slew of original rock tunes; Demons Only Dance at Night was a clear standout with its attention grabbing intro. Bixby Canyon established themselves as the rising talent of Brisbane through an enigmatic stage presence worthy of a headliner. Their half hour set was complete with a solo acoustic introduction of Become transforming to a full band crescendo, audience drumming participation and a finale of singer Jake Wood crash tackling drummer Mitch Thomson. Dirtybird then graced the audience with their gritty garage infused sound. Driven by a punk attitude and an energy that never ceased to waver, they demonstrated vocals reminiscent of Kurt Cobain’s signature raw and raspy style. Teenage Wolves delivered an engaging blend of The Dead Weather meets surf infused tunes. Producing an impressive sound created by vocals drums and guitar it is clear they are pushing alt rock to a new level with Ughh Ahh! and Blue Moon. With a dark instrumental and blues focus, this band have the look, sound and distinctiveness. As the sold out crowd bustled to the bar for the final drinks of the evening there is an undeniable sense of anticipation for Young Bloods round two. - Sarah Hutton fasterlouder.com.au
